Welcome to the new arkvalley.net
by Ark Valley Technologists
·The site you’re looking at is a ground-up redesign of arkvalley.net. The old version got us off the trailhead, but it was mostly placeholder scaffolding. This one is built to actually live in.
What’s new
- A design of our own. The palette comes straight from the valley — alpenglow orange, glacial river blue, deep pine green — and all of the artwork (the hero scene, the logo, the little ridgelines everywhere) is original, hand-drawn SVG. No stock photos were harmed.
- A real blog. Posts are plain markdown files in the repo, so publishing is just a pull request away. There’s an RSS feed too, because RSS never died.
- Dark mode. Done properly, with a toggle in the header that remembers your choice and follows your system preference by default.
- Comments, soon. Each post will get a comment thread powered by GitHub Discussions — more on that below.
Comments, powered by GitHub
Rather than bolt on a heavyweight comment platform with ads and trackers, we’re wiring up giscus — it stores comments as GitHub Discussions, works perfectly on a static site like this one, and a GitHub login is something most of this crowd already has. There’s a one-time bit of repository setup to finish before threads go live; until then, every post points you at the Slack, which is where the conversation happens anyway.
Write with us
The blog is for the whole community. If you’ve built something, debugged something gnarly, or have opinions about the right way to run fiber to a yurt, we want to read it. Posts are markdown files — see Writing your first post for the five-minute guide.
And if you’re new here: welcome! Come say hi on Slack. 🏔️
